Bishop Golfers Compete at Roanoke College Invitational

Roanoke, Va. - The Battling Bishop golf team competed at the Roanoke College Invitational on Friday and Saturday, a two-round event held at the par-72 Ballyhack Golf Club. Wesleyan managed an 8th-place finish among the 13-team field and will now await seeding for the USA South Championship in two weeks.

On Friday, the Bishops posted a team score of 319 behind freshman Ben Gillon's 71 (-1). Junior Tommy Nakamura also turned in a solid 75 to help Wesleyan to a 7th-place billing heading into the final round.

Unfortunately, a blustery Saturday had a negative effect on both team and individual scores throughout the field, with Ferrum's 317 allowing the Panthers to hold for the title. Nakamura paced NCWC by carding a team-low 85 to finish tied for 9th overall with a two-day 160 (+16).

After entering the final round in second place, Gillon ended up 19th overall at +20 for the tourney. Fellow freshman David White turned in rounds of 87 and 89, followed by Michael Madden (86-94) and Matthew May (93-93).

Ferrum's Jesse Wall headed up the 67-man field with rounds of 70 and 76 to finish 2-over.

The USA South Championship is scheduled for April 17-19 and will be hosted by the City of Rocky Mount at nearby Benvenue Country Club.
