Harrisonburg, Va. - Sophomore Ben Gillon kicked off his second season with the Battling Bishops in style over the weekend, carding career-best rounds of 69 and 70 to secure a runner-up finish at the Tom Kinder Memorial Tournament hosted by Bridgewater College. Gillon missed medalist honors by just two strokes, while helping his Wesleyan team post a 6th-place finish among 18 teams competing.

Gillon's bogey-free 69 led Wesleyan in the opening round, with sophomore David White carding a 73 and freshman Grady Anderson a 74. The three, in fact, combined for eight birdies. Teammates Tommy Nakamura and Alexander Kidd also turned in sub-80 rounds to leave the Bishops with a solid 294 team score on the day.

The final round saw the Bishops post the fourth-best team score overall at 303 to jump Hampden-Sydney College in the standings and finish just 10 strokes off the top spot. In addition to Gillon's top-5 performance, White and Anderson each cracked the top-25 by tying for 22nd-place. The tournament featured 96 individuals and was held at the par-72 Lakeview Golf Course.

USA South foe Ferrum College took top team honors with rounds of 292 and 295 to finish 11-over, which gave the Panthers an 2-stroke win over host Bridgewater in 2nd-place. Virginia Wesleyan's Evan Cox earned medalist honors with a two-day 137 (64-73) to finish at 7-under and edge out Gillon.

Wesleyan returns to action next weekend, September 20th and 21st, when the Bishops host their own Don Scalf Invitational at the Belmont Lake Golf Club.
