NCWC's Anderson Earns Medalist Honors at Marlin Invitational

Portsmouth, Va. - Freshman Grady Anderson earned medalist honors at this week's Marlin Invitational hosted by Virginia Wesleyan College. The win is a career first for Anderson, who finished at even par to tally the one-stroke victory.

The three-round event was held at the par-70 Elizabeth Manor Country Club in Portsmouth, Va. and featured 49 golfers among eight teams. Anderson carded opening day rounds of 71 and 69, which led the field heading into Tuesday's final round. He proceeded to shoot par on the final hole to seal the individual championship with an even 70.

Anderson's three-day 210 bested host VWC's Hall Rupert by one stroke. Rupert's 68 in the final round was a tourney best and helped his 43rd-ranked Marlins tally the team victory with rounds of 288, 286, and 285 (+19). The Bishops turned in team scores of 302, 306, and 315 (+83) to finish fourth overall, beating out USA South foe Averett University by 19 strokes.

Joining Anderson was sophomore Ben Gillon, who tied for 18th-place with a pair of 78 rounds that sandwiched a 72. David White (77-81-82) and Pearce Parsons (76-84-85) rounded out Wesleyan's scorers, with Matthew May (91-85-90) also competing.

Up next for the Bishops is the Lynchburg College Invitational next Monday and Tuesday. The two-day tourney will be held at Amherst, Va.'s Poplar Grove Golf Course.
