Wesleyan Golf Prepares to Kick Off 2018 NCAA DIII Championships

Rocky Mount, N.C. - North Carolina Wesleyan's golf team is gearing up for the 2018 NCAA Division III Championships next week, which kicks off on Tuesday afternoon at Grandover Resort in Greensboro. The 42-team, 216-man tournament will be played over two courses (East and West) and will be hosted by Guilford College and the Greensboro Sports Commission. Fresh off the program's first USA South title in 45 years, the Bishops are set to tee off at noon on the Resort's West Course.

After 36 holes, the field will be trimmed to the top 18 teams, plus the top six individuals not playing on one of the top 18 teams. The remaining 36 holes will be contested on the East Course May 17 and May 18. The Bishops, who are currently ranked 13th in the Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll, will play practice rounds on Sunday and Monday in preparation for Tuesday's opening round.

Making the first NCAA appearance in program history, Wesleyan will be led by junior Grady Anderson, who won medalist honors at USA South Championship and leads the Bishops' NCAA line-up with 74.1 stroke average. Also competing for NCWC are senior David White and sophomores Mariano Silvestri, Luke Thornton, and Dustin Wood. As a team, the Bishops have won two straight tournaments and have posted top-5 finishes in eight events this season.
