Wesleyan Golf Jumps to 3rd after Day Two

LAGRANGE, Ga. - The NC Wesleyan men's golf team moved into third place after the second round of the USA South Championships that are being held at the Highland Country Club in LaGrange, GA on Friday.

The Bishops shot a 293 on day one and the second-best score of day two with a 290, improving by 3 shots to sit at 583 (+7), 10 strokes back of 2nd place Methodist. Huntingdon College (Ala.) is in first at -20 under par.

The Bishops are being led by all-conference second team senior Mariano Silvestri's -1 under 143 as he sits in 7th place after rounds of 71 and 72. Junior Dustin Wood is then tied for 11th place at even par after a first round 73 and a second round 71 to shoot the best Bishop round of the day.

All-Conference first teamer Senior Grady Anderson shot 75 on Friday to fall back to 17th place at +3 over par.

Freshman Frankie Schmitt then improved by 5 shots in round two as he shot a 72 jumping 14 places to a T-19th overall at +5 over 149. Junior Luke Thornton then improved by 3 shots on Friday to jump six places to 34th overall at +11 155 with his day two score of 76.

The Bishops will tee off at 9:00 AM Saturday.
