Tennis & Golf Athletes Named Decade Athletes of the Week

In the absence of Conference competition during the fall semester, the USA South Athletic Conference began selecting athletes of the week based on those who earned an athlete of the week honor in a particular category within the current week over the past decade. With Conference competition resuming during the spring semester, the USA South has extended the decade athletes of the week through the entire academic year. Only athletes from current USA South institutions shall be eligible for selection. Additionally, only sports which have been sponsored by the Conference for at least three full seasons will be included. On to the Week 29 Decade Athletes of the Week...

MEN'S TENNIS

Men's Tennis Player of the Week
Robert Kjellberg, N.C. Wesleyan (March 23, 2015) - The senior from Vetlanda, Sweden earned a 3-0 record at both the number-one singles and doubles positions for the Bishops. In singles-action, Kjellberg defeated USA South opposition from Methodist and Ferrum to go along with a three-set victory over an opponent from 16th-ranked Bates. In doubles, he teamed with Sebastian Sikh to collect the three wins.

Men's Tennis Rookie of the Week
Sebastian Sikh, N.C. Wesleyan (March 23, 2015) - The freshman from Eskilstuna, Sweden earned a 3-0 record at the number-two singles and the top doubles positions for the Bishops. In singles-action, Sikh defeated USA South opposition from Methodist and Ferrum to go along with a straight-set victory over an opponent from 16th-ranked Bates. In doubles, he teamed with Robert Kjellberg to collect the three wins.

GOLF

Men's Rookie Golfer of the Week
Grady Anderson, N.C. Wesleyan (March 23, 2016) - The freshman from Camp Lejeune, North Carolina competed twice since the last USA South weekly award recognition. On March 15, Anderson finished first out of 49 golfers at the Virginia Wesleyan Invitational in Portsmouth, Virginia by shooting an even-par 210. In the three-day event, Anderson opened with a one-over par 71, followed with a one-under par 69 and finished with an even-par 70. It was the first-career event win for Anderson. His performance helped the Bishops to a fourth place team finish. Last week, Anderson placed eighth out of 53 golfers at the Lynchburg Invitational in Amherst, Virginia by shooting an eight-over 152. In the two-day event, Anderson opened with a three-over par 75 and finished with a five-over par 77. His performance helped the Bishops to a third place team finish.
