Golf Finishes 12th at GolfWeek Spring Invite

Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla.- The NC Wesleyan College Golf team finished 12th at the D3 GolfWeek Spring Invitational on Sunday from El Campeon golf course in the Orlando Area, Florida.

The 5-man Bishop squad shot a 334 in round one on Friday, a 348 in round two on Saturday and finally a 337 in round three on Sunday. Methodist finished first in the Invitational while Carnegie-Mellon's Jason Li won individual medalist at -2 under par.

Junior captain Frankie Schmitt led the Bishops by placing 38th overall with a 21-over par 237 after shooting a 3-over 75 in the first round, an 83 in the second round and a 7-over 79 in the final round.

Freshman Santiago Larumbe then placed 2nd highest for the Bishops finishing 47th with a 27-over 243 total score after rounds of 81, 84 and a team-best 78 in the final round Sunday.

Fellow junior captain Patricio Basta then placed 58th after rounds of 88, 85 and 89 while freshman Augustin Spangenberg finished 59th after rounds of 90, 97, and 91.

Junior rookie Jonathan Stallings then placed 60th with rounds of 95, 96, and 92.

The NCWC golfers next return to the links on April 17-18 in Farmville, VA at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational.
