Schmitt's 11th place Finish Leads Bishop Golf at USA South Championships

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - Junior captain Frankie Schmitt led the NC Wesleyan College Golf team on Thursday and Friday at the USA South Men's Golf Championships from Benvenue Country Club in Rocky Mount, NC.

Schmitt improved each round by six strokes climbing all the way to a tie for 11th place finish in the championship and just missing the top 10 by a single stroke after hsi even par third round of 72 on Friday afternoon. Schmitt's 72 was the second-best round of the entire tournament by any player. Schmitt also shot rounds of 84 and 78 for a total score of 234.

Also playing well this week for the Bishops was freshman Santiago Larumbe as he improved by 11 shots from the first round to the second shooting rounds of 89, 78 and 79 to finish in a tie for 28th place.

The third member of the Bishops to play this week was junior Patricio Basta who shot rounds of 88, 95, and 91 for a three-round total of 274 to place 44th.

Winning the tournament was Piedmont College with a 920 edging runner-up Huntingdon College by 4 strokes while Methodist's Cooper Hrabak won individual medalist with a birdie on the first playoff hole after tying Ben Balen with a 9-over 225.
