Golf Finishes 19th in Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The NC Wesleyan College men's golf team finished in 19th place at the Savannah Invitational this week at teh Savannah Country Club in Georgia.

Huntingdon College won the tournament with a 852 three-round score while CNU was 2nd and Methodist third. NCWC shot rounds of 336 in the first round Monday morning, 333 in the second round Monday afternoon, and improved greatly on Tuesday shooting a 317 in the third round for a total score of 986.

The best score of the three rounds for Wesleyan was shot by sophomore Santiago Larumbe who fired a 76 in round three Tuesday. He ended up shooting just 87 and 86 on day one to finish in 93rd place at 249.

Freshman Matt Coltren then had the next best round shooting a 77 in the first round Monday before falling back with  scores of 86 and 83 to finish in 88th place at 246. The only other sub-80 score was shot by freshman Aidan Harrington with his 79 on Tuesday in round three as he finished in 89th place with scores of 86 and 83 for a 248.

Fellow freshman Lucas Perez tied with Harrington at 248 with his scores of 87, 80 and 81 as he showed improvement from round one. Junior Augustin Spangenberg also placed 95th with rounds of 86, 84, and 81. 

The team returns to action next Monday and Tuesday when they compete in nearby Wilson, NC at the Barton Intercollegiate.
