Golf Finishes 9th at Barton

WILSON, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College Men's Golf team finished 9th at the Div. II Barton Intercollegiate from Wilson, NC on Tuesday. The Bishops finished ahead of D-2 Mars Hill University while D-1 ECU competed as individuals instead of a team and didn't factor into the team standings.

Wesleyan shot the 9th-best round on Monday morning with a 331 while improving by one shot in round two on Monday afternoon with a 330. The Bishops then also had the 9th-best score of the final round on Tuesday improving by six strokes with a 324.

Freshman Myles Patterson led Wesleyan with a 46th place finish as he was the only Bishop to finish with two rounds in the 70s as he fired back-to-back 78s in rounds 2 and 3 after struggling to an 88 on Monday to finish with a score of 244. Sophomore Santiago Larumbe then placed next in 51st with rounds of 79, 83, and 85.

Freshman Lucas Perez then came in one shot back of Larumbe in 52nd with a total of 248 shooting rounds of 81, 83, and 84. fellow freshman Juan Pielach then placed next in 54th with a 250 after rounds of 83 and 87 on Monday and improving to an 80 in round three. Another freshman, Matt Coltren then finished up the scoring placing 57th out of 64 golfers with rounds of 89, 86, and 82 as he continually improved and showed progress each day.

Barton won their Intercollegiate with a three day score of 13-under par 851 outdueling fellow D-2 Southern Wesleyan (S.C.) by over 30 strokes.

The Bishops will next head to Virginia Beach to compete at the Marlin Invitational at Virginia Wesleyan Univ. from Friday through Sunday.
