Viegas Tallies Second Straight Gamewinner at Ferrum

Ferrum, Va. - Sophomore Caetano Viegas tallied his second straight game-winning goal on Saturday afternoon at Ferrum College, leading his Bishops to a 3-0 shutout of the Panthers on the road. With the win, Wesleyan improves to 8-4-1 overall, 4-1 in USA South play.

Viegas' gave the Bishops all the offense they would need with a goal at the 3:59 mark, assisted by senior Samba Cande. Wesleyan later made it 2-0 at the break with a score by Jordan Grantz off a Xavier Mensah throw-in in the 38th minute.

At the 72:32 mark, the Bishops' Halldor Bjarneyjarson provided the final score with his first goal of the season on a corner assist from Thorfinnur Thorfinnsson. Freshman keeper Jesper Olsson did the rest in goal, making five saves on eight Panther shots. Ferrum goalie Keegan Fairchild made a trio of stops on ten Bishop shots en route to the loss.

Wesleyan returns home next weekend to host a pair of key USA South match-ups. The Bishops will take on Piedmont Friday at 2:00pm, which will be followed by a tilt with Covenant Saturday at 2:00pm. Saturday will serve as Wesleyan's 2014 Senior Day at Scalf Field.
