Wesleyan Soccer Season Ends with tough 1-0 loss at NCAAs

LEXINGTON, Va. - The NC Wesleyan College Men's Soccer Team, the USA South Champions, fell 1-0 on the road to 11th ranked Washington & Lee University (Va.) in the first round of the NCAA D-3 Tournament on Saturday.

The Generals will now advance to tomorrow's regional final vs. Gettysburg College (Pa.), who beat Oglethorpe 4-0 in the other regional semifinal.  

The Bishops end the season 16-3-2 with their most wins since 2008. 

A scoreless first half saw W&L take just a 6-5 advantage in shots into the second half as the Bishops hung right with the higher ranked Generals throughout. The game would remain scoreless until WLU scored the game-winner in the 81st minute of play as they scored off a corner kick to take the 1-0 lead.

Wesleyan could not find the equalizer over the final 9 minutes in falling as WLU (16-2-3) would control the second half with an 8-1 advantage in shots.

USA South Tournament MVP, goalkeeper Tobias Borzel finished the day making 2 saves on 3 shots as his stellar season came to an end. Junior forwards Baboucarr Njie and Dom Giovannini ended up leading the team with two shots apiece.
