ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team used a goal in each half and stellar defense to shut down conference rival Averett 2-0 at home on Saturday afternoon.

Wesleyan got on the board in the 40th minute as junior midfielder Jack Holden poked in a goal in the right corner of the net off a nice pass from freshman defender Abubacarr Fofana to stake Wesleyan to a 1-0 lead at the break.

The Bishops then added an insurance goal in the 55th minute of the second half when senior midfielder Lucas Menzo struck a nice shot into an open net off a pass from freshman Orri Bjornsson. Bjornsson's first shot was saved by the keeper and he then gathered the rebound off the save and passed it to a streaking Menzo for the goal.

Wesleyan ended up holding the Cougars to just 4 shots on the game outshooting them 12-4 overall as freshman keeper Matteo Torchio made three saves as well.

NCWC improves to 3-1-1 on the season and 3-1 in the conference while Averett falls to 2-2 in the East Division.

The Bishops will next return to action next Saturday when they travel to Virginia to battle Mary Baldwin at 3 PM.
