ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team rolled to their first win of the season on Wednesday shutting out non-conference foe Carolina University (formerly Piedmont Intl.) 3-0 in their home opener.

The Bishops got off to a fast start scoring their first goal in the 7th minute of action as sophomore forward Orri Bjornsson scored off an assist from sophomore Andrea Lacche

Wesleyan then took that 1-0 lead into the halftime break as little scoring chances arose in the first half. However, Wesleyan then made it 2-0 in the 52nd minute as Bjornsson scored his second goal of the game off a rebound of a previously saved shot.

Then, minutes later, the Bruins thought thay had cut it to 2-1 but were called for offsides negating the goal. The Bishops then put it out of reach with their third goal of the game in the 81st minute as freshman Matteo Simonini scored on an assist from Gonzalo Brodsky.

Wesleyan outshot the Bruins 13-3 in the second half and 15-6 overall while sophomore goalkeeper Matteo Torchio secured his first shutout of the season making 3 saves.

The Bishops improve to 1-3-1 and next will play USA South West Div. foe Maryville College in Charlotte on Friday at 2 pm.
