Bishop Men Rout Methodist

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team reeled off five unanswered goals to rally from an early 1-0 deficit to rout the Monarchs 5-1 on the road Wednesday night.

The four-goal first half included a hat trick of 3 goals from freshman midfielder Tony Sas-Cane as he completed his hat trick in a span of just 6 minutes.

MU got out to a quick 1-0 lead scoring just 24 seconds into the match. However, the Bishops would not be deterred and went on to tie it at the 10:00 mark with a goal from freshman defender Shawn Reinoehl off an assist from freshman midfielder Augustin Belgiorno.

Then in the 25th minute, Sas-Cane got rolling scoring his first goal of the game off an assist from Belgiorno to give Wesleyan their first lead at 2-1. He then added his second goal of the half just two minutes later scoring of an assist from senior captain Jack Holden.

Sas-Cane then completed his hat trick in the 31st minute also scoring unassisted to give the Bishops a 4-1 lead at the break as NCWC outshot the Monarchs 14-2 in the half.

Bjornsson then added the Bishops' 5th goal of the game in the 66th minute of the second half off an assist from senior midfielder Lucas Diez-Lugo. It was his third goal of the season. Wesleyan outshot MU 10-3 in the second half and 24-5 overall while goalkeeper Tobias Borzel made one save.

The big win improves NCWC to 3-1 in the conference and 5-6-2 overall while dropping Methodist to 2-8 and 0-3-1 in the East Division.

The Bishops return to action on Saturday when they head to Southern Virginia to battle the Knights at 7 pm.
