Men's Soccer Edges Pfeiffer to Clinch USA South Tournament Berth

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team edged out Pfeiffer University 2-1 at home on senior day Saturday afternoon in a tense gme that clinched their spot in next weekend's conference tournament.

After Pfeiffer got on the board first in the 31st minute, the Bishops came right back 6 minutes later as sophomore midfielder Ian Garnero scored unassisted to tie things up at one goal apiece at the break as NCWC led 11-2 in shots.

The Bishops' Orri Bjornsson then scored the game-winning goal in the 67th minute off an assist from sophomroe midfielder Augustin Belgiorno. It was his 4th goal of the season and Belgiorno's 4th assist.

Wesleyan also outshot the Falcons 11-2 in the second half as well while senior goalkeeper Tobias Borzel allowed just one goal all game making one save. Pfeiffer falls to 6-8 overall and 3-4 in the conference.

The Bishops now improve to 5-2 in the conference and 7-7-2 overall and will be the East's #2 seed in the upcoming tournament. time, location and opponent to be announced later this weekend.
