CARY, N.C. - The #2 seeded NC Wesleyan College men's soccer team fell 3-1 in a penalty kick shootout after a scoreless draw with West #2 seed Covenant College in the finals of the USA SOUTH Tournament from WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary.

The championship match was a rematch of the USA South final two years when NCWC beat Covenant in penalty kicks. However, the Scots dominated this year's shootout succeeding on all three of their attempts against Wesleyan's freshman keeper Frederick Rogers.

Wesleyan made just one of their PKs as senior MF Jack Holden knocked it through, but misses from senior forward Lorenzo Cocchia, sophomore forward Juan Simoniello, and senior MF Rodrigo Soto unfortunately sealed the Bishops' fate on this day.

Wesleyan dominated the first half outshooting the Scots 7-1, but still remained scoreless. Covenant then controlled the second half taking the shot count advantage 9-3.

The two 10-minute overtime periods were pretty calm with the Bishops attempting just one shot combined over the two periods to take an 11-10 shot count lead into the PK shootout.

Rogers (2-1-1) finished the day making 7 saves in 110 minutes for his third straight shutout, but unfortunately came up short in the shootout allowing all three shots he faced. Augustin Rodriguez led the way with 3 shot attempts throughout the game, but never got his chance in the shootout.

Wesleyan had five players named to teh All-Conference tournament team as well. They included Holden at midfield, Abubacarr Fofana and Christian Tiniaco at defender, Rodriguez at forward and Rogers as the all-tournament goalkeeper.

The Bishops finish the season 9-7-3 overall while Covenant goes to 11-3-4 and will find out their NCAA tournament matchup on Monday.
