Bishops Drop Season Opener at Mary Washington

Fredricksburg, VA - The NC Wesleyan University Men's Soccer team fell 3-2 to Mary Washington in the season opener Thursday.

Josh Kirkland of Mary Washington started the game off with a score in the first minute of the match to put the Eagles up 1-0. After the early goal, the Bishops and Eagles played to a draw the rest of the half. Kirkland again started the second half with a goal in the fifty first minute of the match to put Mary Washington up 2-0.

The Battling Bishops then started their run to get back in the match, when in the fifty second minute Osei Darko scored to pull NC Wesleyan within 1. Fourtneen minutes later Andrea Lacche brought the match to a tie with an unassisted goal. Mary Washington would answer at the seventy-minute mark with a goal of their own and hold on to their lead to win the match 3-2.

The Battling Bishops will face Marymount in their next match, Saturdya, September 3rd at 3:00pm.
