NCWC Duo Advances to ITA National Championships

Sewanee, Tenn. - Senior Alexey Rumyantsev and sophomore Robert Kjellberg have qualified for the USTA/ITA National Small College Championships after securing the ITA Regional doubles crown this past weekend in Sewanee, Tennessee. The talented duo went 5-0 in the regional tournament, knocking off Morgan Slevin and Riley Erhardt of Rhodes College by an 8-4 score to secure the title.

Also competing in the ITA Regional Tournament were sophomores Rinat Khussainov and Viktor Selander, who teamed for a pair of victories in doubles play before falling to Slevin/Erhardt in the quarterfinals.

In singles play, the four Battling Bishops combined for an 8-4 record with Kjellberg reaching the quarterfinals. There, he lost to eventual champion Dillon Pottish of Emory University (6-4, 7-6).

Wesleyan will compete in the Elon Fall Invitational this upcoming weekend in Burlington, North Carolina. Rumyansev and Kjellberg will then head to Mobile, Alabama for ITA Nationals from October 13th to the 16th.
