Kjellberg, Prostak Victorious at UVA Fall Classic

Charlottesville, Va. - Junior Robert Kjellberg and senior Artsiom Prostak competed this weekend at the University of Virginia's Fall Classic in Charlottesville. Playing among Division I competition, the two showed of their immense talent as Kjellberg won his draw's championship and Prostak took the backdraw title in his bracket.

Seeded second in his draw, Kjellberg earned a first round bye before picking up straight-set wins over John Karle of Coastal Carolina (6-1, 6-1) and Anton Andersson of William & Mary (6-4, 6-0). The victories set up a championship rematch with Wake Forest's Antony Delcore, who had defeated Kjellberg just two weeks ago at Elon. This time, however, Kjellberg extended his singles win streak to nine matches with a dominating 6-4, 6-1 victory.

"Playing Delcore again was a great opportunity for me," said Kjellberg. "The tournament served as great preparation for Mobile."

Prostak dropped his opening match, but he rebounded for a trio of wins over Sam Lemberger of Norfolk State (6-4, 6-2), Janik Burri of Binghamton (3-6, 6-1, 12-10) and Jorge Azuero of Liberty (7-5, 6-1).  He also teamed with Kjellberg for a pair of doubles wins over teams from Penn State and Norfolk State for a third place finish.

Said Prostak, "It feels good to pick up some tough wins after losing several close matches against tough opponents this fall."

Added head coach Worth Richardson, "It was a great weekend at a wonderful place with tremendous coaches and players. For Stak and Rob to go 8-2 at a tournament with starters from five nationally ranked Division I teams just shows the strength of Bishop tennis and Division III tennis overall."

Kjellberg wraps up fall play next weekend in Mobile, Ala. at the 2012 ITA National Small College Championships.
