NCWC Doubles Tandem Finishes Fourth Nationally

Ft. Myers, Fla. - The North Carolina Wesleyan doubles tandem of senior Robert Kjellberg and sophomore Johan Ljungdahl earned a 4th-place finish at this week's ITA Small College Championships held in Ft. Myers, Florida. The duo had qualified for the tournament via their regional championship win back on September 22nd.

Having secured the top national seed, Kjellberg and Ljungdahl opened play on Thursday with a relatively easy straight-set win over Johns Hopkins' Michael Buxbaum and Emerson Walsh (6-3, 7-6 [6]). Unfortunately, their hopes of a national title came to a halt later in the day when they were defeated by eventual champions Palmer Campbell and Brantner Jones of Middlebury (6-3, 6-2).

The tournament ended on Friday with a 3rd-place battle against Jeremy Bush and Ross Putterman of Washington-St. Louis. Bush/Putterman took the first set tiebreak by a 7-4 tally and went on to secure a 6-1 win in the second.

By virtue of their performance, Kjellberg and Ljungdahl are now ranked #1 in the Atlantic South Region and #4 nationally.

The Bishops will wrap up their fall season at Elon University's Fall Invitational, which kicks off on October 25th in Burlington.
