Wesleyan Splits with Maryville at Slick Tennis Center

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The men's and women's tennis teams of North Carolina Wesleyan split a pair of USA South matches with Maryville College on Sunday afternoon at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center. The Bishop men cruised to a 9-0 sweep of the Scots, surrendering just one game in the match. Maryville, however, tallied a 7-2 win on the women's side to secure the split.

In men's action, NCWC surrender just one game at #1 doubles en route to a 9-0 victory. Mikhail Konnov, Peter Hviid, Eduardo Ugalde, Elias Kerem and Ben Tolhurst went on record 6-0, 6-0 straight-set wins at #1 through #5 singles, with freshman Philipp Vylegzhanin winning by default at the 6th seed.

In women's play, freshman Natalia Lopez teamed with sophomore Katie Beeman for an 8-4 win at #1 doubles. Lopez went on to earn NCWC's lone point in singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the top seed.

Both teams continue USA South play on Wednesday at 3:00pm when they travel to league rival Methodist.
