Fayetteville, N.C. - Junior Peter Hviid won a third-set tiebreak 7-3 to help lift his Battling Bishop men's tennis team to a thrilling 5-4 victory at Methodist University on Tuesday afternoon in Fayetteville. Playing the #2 position, Hviid came from behind to down MU's Taylor Buchholz 1-6, 6-0, 7-6 to keep Wesleyan undefeated in USA South play at 3-0. On the women's side, the Bishops suffered a 7-2 loss to the defending champion Monarchs.

In men's action, the Bishops had taken an early 2-1 lead in doubles play after Hviid teamed with Mikhail Konnov for an 8-4 win at the top seed over Buchholz and Duncan Miller. Sophomore Eduardo Ugalde and freshman Elias Kerem were also winners at the #2 seed by an 8-0 score. Wesleyan narrowly missed the doubles sweep with the duo of Ben Tolhurst and Philipp Vylegzhanin suffering an 8-6 loss at the third slot.

In singles play, Miller knocked off Konnov at the top position in straights, but Ugalde and Kerem returned the favor with straight-set wins at the third and fourth slots.  Methodist managed a pair of three set wins at #5 and #6, but it was Hviid who clinched the match for Wesleyan with his thrilling win at #2.

On the women's side, freshman Natalia Lopez continued her league dominance with another pair of wins. She began by joining teammate Katie Beeman for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles, then moved to 3-0 in singles play with a 6-1, 6-1 win over MU's Laura Baker at the top seed.

Wesleyan's women will be back in action on Thursday when they travel to league foe Mary Baldwin, while both teams will travel to Ferrum College on Saturday for a pair of USA South match-ups.
