Bishops Post Impressive 8-1 Victory over #11 Hopkins

Fredericksburg, Va. - The Battling Bishop men's tennis team played its final regular season match on Saturday, taking on #11 Johns Hopkins at the University of Mary Washington. Wesleyan continued its dominance of late with an impressive 8-1 win to move to 16-5 on the season.

The Bishops jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play as duos of Robert Kjellberg/Sebastian Sikh, Fernando Nardelli/Eduardo Ugalde and Fabio Pereira/Andres Gomez all tallied victories. Kjellberg/Sikh won by an 8-4 score at #1, followed by an 8-2 rout at #2 by Nardelli/Ugalde. Pereira/Gomez narrowly escaped with a 9-8 (4) win at #3.

Kjellberg upped his singles record to 16-1 this spring with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the top seed over JHU's Ben Hwang. Sikh dominated his first set at the 2nd-seed before winning by retirement, while Pereria, Nardelli and Gomez were all three-set winners at #3, #4 and #5, respectively.

Hopkins' (14-7) lone point came at the 6th-seed where Erik Lim edged Ugalde in three sets (6-4, 6-7, 10-5).

Wesleyan will now await seeding for the program's seventh straight NCAA Tournament appearance in early May. Stay tuned to www.ncwcsports.com  for information regarding the Bishops' first round opponent and location.
