#22 Bishops Post First Victories of Season

Rocky Mount, N.C. / Fredericksburg, Va. - The 22nd-ranked N.C. Wesleyan men's tennis team posted its first victories of the season over the weekend, opening USA South play with an 8-1 win over Covenant on Friday before knocking off Washington College on Saturday by the same score. Sophomore Sebastian Sikh went 3-1 in singles play over the four matches to help first-year head coach Dustin Hale notch his first career coaching wins at his alma mater.

After downing the Scots at home on Friday, the Bishops traveled to Fredericksburg, Va. for a trio of matches at the University of Mary Washington on Saturday and Sunday. NCWC fell to #25 Stevens by an 8-1 score on Saturday morning, with Sikh picking up Wesleyan's lone point at #2 singles.

After rebounding with a victory over Washington, the Bishops fell to the 16th-ranked Eagles 6-3 on Sunday. The difference in the match came at #2 and #3 singles, where host UMW was able to pick up a pair of three-set wins.

In addition to Sikh, freshman J.D. Telles also went 3-1 in singles play, earning victories over opponents from Covenant, Washington, and UMW. Telles also combined with senior Mikhail Konnov to go 3-1 in doubles play. Sophomore David Chang went 2-0 in singles action, and he combined with newcomer Sebastian Wiiala for a pair of victories at #3 doubles.

Wesleyan (2-3) returns to action at Kenyon College on Saturday.
