Pair of Bishops Compete at Elon University Fall Invitational

Elon, N.C. - The Battling Bishop duo of J.D. Telles and Sebastian Sikh competed this weekend at the Elon University Fall Invitational, going 4-2 in singles play and 1-1 in doubles action versus Division I competition.

In flight play, Telles was a three-set winner over UNC Wilmington's Marshal Waren (3-6, 6-3, 6-2) in the round of 16. After dropping a straight-set decision to Paul Mendoza of James Madison University (6-1, 6-2), the talented sophomore bounced back for a victory over Longwood's Lachlan Manser in the round robin (6-0, 6-2).

Sikh also earned two singles victories, cruising to straight-set wins over Brooks Campbell of N.C. Central (6-3, 6-3) and Manser (6-1, 6-1). His lone defeat came at the hands of Longwood's Amadeo Blasco (7-5, 6-1).

In doubles action, the Bishop duo dropped a close 8-6 decision to Longwood's Farthing/Godoy before knocking off UNCW's Waren/Hublitz 8-4. Their backdraw championship match versus Melnik/Burkill of UNC Greensboro was cancelled due to inclement weather on Sunday.

Wesleyan men's tennis will next travel to Sewanee, Tenn. next weekend to compete in ITA Fall Regional play hosted by the University of the South.
