Men's Tennis Shut Out Shaw in Home Opener

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team opened up their season on Monday afternoon at home by shutting out Div. II Shaw University (N.C.) 9-0 at the Slick Family Tennis Center.

The men started off by sweeping the doubles matches winning 8-3, 8-0, and 8-2. The top doubles team of junior Roberto Puig and sophomore Jhonny Acosta won 8-3 while the #2 team of sophomore Juan Vallejo and senior Ingmar Remmerswaal won 8-0. The #3 team of sophomores Max Robinson and Nikita Revin then finished it off 8-2.

In the singles matches, Puig led the Bishops with a straight sets win, 6-1 and 6-4 at the #1 spot while Vallejo won 6-0 and 6-4 at the #2 spot. Acosta then won 6-2 and 7-5 at the third spot while Remmerswaal took a 6-3, 6-1 straight set win at the 5th spot. Revin then won a thrilling match at the #4 spot defeating former Wesleyan athlete 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 to close out the shutout win. Freshman Augusto Roca also won 6-1, 7-5 at #6 singles.

The Bishops will return to action on Friday when they head up to Mary Washington (Va.) for a 4 PM battle.
