#21 Wesleyan Men's Tennis Edges CNU 5-4

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The 21st ranked NC Wesleyan College Men's Tennis team won 4 of 6 singles matches en route to upending Christopher Newport University 5-4 on the road Friday evening.

#40 CNU (regionally ranked 7th) took a 2-1 lead over the regionally ranked 4th Bishops by winning a close 8-7 match at #2 doubles over senior Ingmar Remmerswaal and sophomore Jhonny Acosta while Wesleyan's top doubles team of junior Roberto Puig and sophomore Juan Vallejo won 8-6.

Racking up wins in the singles for the Bishops was Vallejo at the top line, Puig at the 2 line, Acosta at the 4 line, and Remmerswaal at the 5 line.

Vallejo won his battle in 3 sets (3-6, 6-4, 6-2) as he came back from a set down while Puig also won in 3 (6-4, 1-6, 6-1). Acosta then won his match in three sets (6-2, 4-6, 6-0) as well shutting out his opponent in the third set 6-0 while Remmerswaal took his match 7-5 6-4 at #5. Sophomore Nikita Revin also dropped a tough 3-set battle at #3 singles falling 6-2, 6-7, 2-6.

The Bishops improve to 2-1 on the year while CNU falls to 1-1. Wesleyan is right back in action on Saturday when they face Washington & Lee (Va.) at 2 PM in Newport News.
