Tennis Slips Past W&L 5-4

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The 21st ranked NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team defeated non-conference foe, Washington & Lee University (Va.) 5-4 for their second straight win on Saturday at James River CC.

The men were led by their top two doubles teams that pulled out two victories to give the Bishops an early 2-1 lead. The top pairing of junior Roberto Puig and sophomore Juan Vallejo won 8-4 at the top line while the second team of sophomore Jhonny Acosta and senior Ingmar Remmerswaal won 8-3.

Wesleyan then won 3 singles matches led by wins from Puig at the 2 line, sophomore Nikita Revin at the 3 line, and Acosta at the 4 line. Puig and Acosta each won in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 and 6-3, 6-4 respectively while Revin won a three-setter 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 to clinch the dual win.

The Bishops improve to 3-1 on the season while WLU falls to 1-2.

Wesleyan will be back in action on Tuesday when they head to nearby Div. II Mount Olive for a 2 PM contest.
