Men's Tennis Defeats D-2 Mount Olive

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team pulled off another good win on Friday defeating D-2 power Mount Olive 6-3 at home.

Wesleyan got things rolling in the doubles as they took 2 of 3 matches to lead 2-1. Winning their doubles matches were the duos of juniors Jhonny Acosta and Juan Vallejo as they won 8-4 while the duo of freshman Valentin Mussi and junior Max Robinson escaped by score of 8-7.

UMO then pulled ahead 3-2 after sweeping the top two lines in singles. The Bishops, however, would then win out after those two losses to take the last four singles matches with wins from Acosta, Mussi, freshman John Falke, and sophomore Valentin Ancieto.

Acosta would win 6-4, 6-4 at the three line while Falke won 6-3, 6-0 at the four line. Ancieto then won his bout 6-3, 6-4 at the six line to clinch the match. Wesleyan then earned a bonus win as Mussi won his match in a close three-set tiebreak, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8 at the 5 line.

The Bishops improve to 4-2 on the season while UMO falls to 3-2.

The Wesleyan men will return to action on Monday as they remain home to host Southern Virginia Univ. at 3 PM.
