#10 Men's Tennis Powers Past CNU 8-1

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The 10th ranked NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team rolled to an impressive 8-1 road win over 34th ranked CNU (Va.) on Saturday afternoon.

Wesleyan got off to a good start dominating the three doubles matches by a combined score of 24-10. The top doubles team of seniors Jhonny Acosta and JP Vallejo won 8-5 while the #2 team of senior Roberto Puig and sophomore John Falke rolled 8-4. The third doubles team of juniors Thato Holmes and Tsehepo Mosarwa cruised to an 8-1 win.

Wesleyan then dominated four of the six singles matches as well as Vallejo, Puig, and freshmen Luca Knese and Diego Segovia all won in easy straight sets. Vallejo won 6-1, 6-2 while Puig won 6-0, 6-2. Knese also won 6-0, 6-1 while Segovia cruised 6-2, 6-3.

Falke and Acosta then split their matches with Acosta falling 10-7 in a third set tiebreak after splitting the first two sets 2-6, 6-2 while Falke won 6-7 (6-8), 6-4, and 10-4.

The Bishops now improve to 11-1 on the year while CNU falls to 6-3. 

NCWC next returns to action next Saturday to host conference foe Pfeiffer at 2:00 PM.
