#12 Men's Tennis Slides Past Mount Olive 6-3

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team slid past a tough Division II foe, #37 ranked Mount Olive Univ. 6-3 at home on Saturday afternoon.

The win improves the Bishops to 22-3 on the year while dropping UMO to 9-5.

Wesleyan took a 2-1 lead after the doubles matches on wins from the #2 and #3 spots. Seniors Max Robinson Roberto Puig teamed to win 8-2 at the 2 line while the team of sophomore John Falke and seninor JP Vallejo combined to win 8-3 at the three line. The team of senior Jhonny Acosta and freshman Diego Segovia then fell 8-3 at the top line.

In singles, the Bishops clinched the victory by wins from Acosta at the top line as he defeated the 17th ranked D-2 Conference Player of the Year 6-3, 6-2, while Segovia won at the four line (6-4, 6-4) and freshman Luca Knese at the three line (6-4, 6-0). Junior Tshepo Mosarwa then pulled off the final singles win defeating his foe at the five line 6-1, 7-5. 

Unfortunately, Augusto Roca and Andy Fanzaga lost close three-setters at the two and six lines respectively. Roca fell 5-7, 7-6, 4-10 while Fanzaga lost 6-4, 2-6, 4-10. Mosarwa and junior Thato Holmes also teamed up to win an exhibition doubles match by a score of 8-5.

The men will next take on Hampden-Sydney on Easter Sunday at 11:00 am at home before traveling to Wake Forest on Sunday at 5:00 pm.
