Men's Track & Field Competes at IMG

BRADENTON, FL - The NC Wesleyan College men's track and field team competed at the Spring Break Invitational at the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida on Friday and came away with some decent results.
 
Senior Keyonte Williams placed 5th in the 400 hurdles in one minute flat which is good enough to rank 5th in the USA South. Freshman Noel Meza led the team in the 200 meters with his breakout performance finishing 9th in 23.18 while Ross also ran a time of 23.65 in the 200. Dolley and Noah Strange ran in the 200 as well and set personal records at 24 seconds. Meza also ran in the 400 meters and finished 8th in 53.4. 
 
On the men side the 100 meter sprinters were led by freshman Abu Dolley who had a personal record of 11.5 seconds followed by senior Luis Ross with a time of 11.56 another personal record. The times have them currently ranked 7th and 8th in the conference
 
In the 1500 meters, Philly Barungi then finished 4th in a time of 4:41 while freshman Ayden Harper was 7th in a time of 4:49. The 4x400 relay team of Meza, Noah Strange, Williams, and Luis Ross finished 2nd in 3:44. 
 
Sherfield Smith then led the way in field events placing 9th in the shot put (10.5 meters), while Freshman Malik Anderson closed the show on the men side with a stellar performance in the discus throw with a USA South conference leading throw of 35 meters. Smith also led the team in the javelin placing 4th in 29.5 meters while Anderson was 7th with a throw of 24.4 meters.
 
"Our team has done a lot of improvement the past few weeks," commented Coach Dunn. "The men's and women's teams are really believing in themselves due to the continued hard work and dedication they are putting in to their craft."

The men and women will next compete on Saturday at the CNU Blue/Silver Challenge in Virginia.
