MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. - The men's and women's teams competed at the Adidas Trojan Challenge at Mount Olive College on Saturday afternoon. The men placed 13th overall with 11 points.

The day started off with sophomore Raquan Harris jumping a distance of 5.84 meters (19 feet) in the long jump to place 16th which is a personal best for him and is a 2nd best jump of all time at NC Wesleyan.

Sophomore Christian Tippette and freshman Connor Hayes then both competed in the 1500 meter run, with both runners breaking the school record (4:20) previously held by Hall of Famer Wallace Johnson. Tippette ran a new school record of 4:17 for 8th place while Hayes was close behind with a time of 4:18 for 9th place.  

Wesleyan had 2 runners run the 10,000 meters race, with freshman Terenthen Parker finishing in 9th place setting a new school record of 37:49, and Tyler Bird following close behind him with a 39:49 (10th place).

Sophomore Cameron Achilles then competed in the 200 meter run and finished with a time of 24.46.

In the 800 meter run, Hayes competed hard for NCWC and ran an impressive 2:09 time to place 25th, which was after a very short recovery time from running in the 1500s.

In the 5,000 meters run, NCWC was represented with 1 male and 1 female runner competing, with the men led by freshman Keyonte Williams., who placed 15th with a time of 19:32. Junior Haley Sheehan ran a great time of 22:24 which is 7 seconds off the school record of 22:17. She now holds the 2nd fastest time in school history.

The men's 4 x100 team consisted of Harris, Achilles, sophomore Carlos Clinton, and freshman Jeshon Smith, and they competed hard to finish in 6th place with a time of 48.06.

The meet was concluded by the men competing in the 4x400 relay with Achilles, Parker, Tippette, and Clinton running a time of 3:41 for 5th place.

"I am very proud of this group of runners and the performance that they had today," said head coach Marshall Leonard. "This is the 1st track meet that NCWC has competed in since the 1980s, and they represented NC Wesleyan in a positive way that would make all our alumni runners proud.  Not only did they run hard, but they showed outstanding sportsmanship towards the other team's competitors.  The future is bright for the NC Wesleyan's running program, and we are just getting started."

The Bishops will next compete at D-1 Elon University next Saturday.
