Dunn Named New Cross Country & Track Coach

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - NC Wesleyan College Director of Athletics Aaron Denton has announced the addition of Bill Dunn as the new head men's and women's cross country & track & field coach for the Battling Bishops.

Dunn comes to the Bishops from Division I track and field powerhouse NC A&T State University after spending the past nine seasons as the assistant sprint and middle distance coach for the Aggies.

Coach Dunn teamed up with Coach Ross 15 years ago and the two have accomplished immense success together. During Coach Dunn's tenure with NC A&T track and field programs he coached and assist in the development of 5 Event NCAA Division 1 National Champions, 46 NCAA Division 1 National Championship qualifiers, 62 NCAA Regional qualifiers, and 16 Middle Eastern Atlantic Conference Championship titles. In the 2020-2021 outdoor track and field season NC A&T Aggies were the only team in division I to have both men (3rd) and women (4th) finish in the top 5 overall team standings in the country. With competing and medaling in the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.

His stint at N.C. A&T followed five successful seasons at conference rival Methodist University as the head cross country and assistant track & field coach.

Methodist had a 4th place finish at 2012 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor National Championships, 4th place finish at 2011 NCAA Indoor National Championships, and a 3rd place finish at the 2011 NCAA Outdoor National Championships. Dunn has also coached athletes to 41 individual Mason Dixon indoor conference champions, 47 individual Mason Dixon outdoor champions, 1 Mason Dixon Outdoor Athlete of the Year, 4 USA South All-Cross Country athletes, 18 Methodist scholar athletes, and 2 Academic All-Americans, Methodist track and field athletes broke 13 school records under Dunn's tutelage with every sprinter, middle and long distance runner setting personal-bests during his tenure. Dunn was responsible for coaching 2 USA South Women's Cross Country Runner of the Year awards, 7 Mason Dixon Conference Championships, and 20 All-Mason Dixon conference honors.

Dunn's passion for developing athletes has made him a well-known force within the USA Track and Field and AAU track and field communities. He has assisted in the development and coaching of several Junior Olympic National Champions.

Bill Dunn is a native of Kinston, N.C. where he attended Kinston High School and was a standout track and field athlete. After graduation, he attended Shawnee State University and the University of Phoenix.

He also completed a tour of duty in the U.S. Navy before retiring and returning to North Carolina. Coach Dunn has his USA Track and Field Level 1 coaching certification, USTFCCCA Program Management Certification and a USA Track and Field certified official.
