Six Bishops Garner League Recognition in Softball

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2013 postseason awards for softball, with total of 62 student-athletes being named to the All-Conference teams.  Six Battling Bishop players were recognized, led by Third Team selections Paige Pritchett and Jasmine Edgren.

Pritchett was honored at designated player after batting .290 with seven doubles, three homers and 14 RBIs during the regular season. Edgren, who was selected as a utility player, currently leads the team with a .346 batting average and .992 fielding percentage, having made only one error in 119 chances.

Also garnering recognition were Honorable Mention sophomores Carla Matthews, Kendra Hoes and Kelsi Bailey. Both Matthews and Hoes were chosen in the outfield after batting close to .300, with Hoes having tied the program's single-season homerun record with eight on the season. Bailey was selected in the circle after posting five wins and a 1.81 earned run average in conference play.

Elsewhere around the league, Christopher Newport's Sabrina Hill collected Player of the Year accolades, Ferrum College's Kaitlyn Culler earned Pitcher of the Year honors while her coach, Vickie Van Kleeck collected the Coach of the Year award. Rounding out the individual honors were Piedmont College teammates Olivia Duncan and Jordin Ellingson, who were named Rookie and Rookie Pitcher of the Year, respectively.

The USA South also recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school. North Carolina Wesleyan was represented by freshman Tamiko Miller.
