Bishops Honor Parent's Day, Even Record with Sweep

Raleigh, Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's softball team hosted its 2015 Parent's Day on Saturday, then celebrated the occasion with a doubleheader sweep of USA South foe Mary Baldwin. The Bishops, who split Friday's twinbill at Meredith College, have now won seven of their last ten games to even their record at 13-13 on the season, 9-9 in conference play.

Saturday's action saw the Bishops cruise to 18-0 and 9-0 wins over Baldwin in five innings. In the opener, freshman pitcher Logan Lowery tossed her second straight complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and racking up six strikeouts.

Brittany Manning, Tiffany Manning and Sarah Bowyer paced Wesleyan's offensive efforts with a trio of hits apiece, with Brittany launching her first career homer and driving in four runs.

The second game was again all Bishops as junior Jasmine Edgren (9-3) matched Lowery with a two-hit shutout of her own. Edgren also helped her own cause at the plate, driving in three runs on a pair of singles.

The sweep followed Friday's split at Meredith that saw Lowery (4-8) post a four-hit shutout in the first game. Tiffany Manning, Carla Matthews and Sarah Roberts each collected two RBIs to help NCWC to an 11-0 victory in five innings.

The Angels rebounds for an 11-4 win in the nightcap.

Wesleyan will face William Peace University on Tuesday and will be hosting its 2015 Pink Day. Fans are encouraged to join the Bishops in their support Breast Cancer Awareness by wearing pink to the game, which is slated for a 2:00pm start at Edge Field.
