USA South Releases Softball All-Conference Awards

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has announced its 2015 All-Conference awards for softball with a total of 49 student-athletes earning recognition on the First, Second, Honorable Mention and All-Sportsmanship teams. North Carolina Wesleyan had five athletes garner accolades as Kendra Hoes, Jasmine Edgren, Brittany Manning and Logan Lowery were each named to the Honorable Mention squad. Sophomore Abigail Leonard rounded Wesleyan's honorees by representing the Bishops on the league's All-Sportsmanship team.

Hoes, a senior outfielder, picks up the second All-Conference nod of her career. The Bowie, Md. native batted a team-best .372 in USA South action and tallied a team-high 35 hits during the regular season. Edgren joins her as a two-time honoree after leading the team with a .346 overall batting average to go along with a 10-5 record on the mound. The product of Cape Carteret, N.C. also led the team in RBIs with 23.

Joining the upperclassmen as first-time selections are Manning and Lowery. A sophomore shortstop from Portsmouth, Va., Manning batted .326 in conference play and has made her mark defensively by ranking in the top-5 in the league in both assists and double plays turned. A freshman pitcher, Lowery put together a stellar freshman season, turning in the fourth-best ERA in the USA South at 2.27. The Kannapolis, N.C. native won her last five starts to help secure the Bishops a spot in this weekend's conference tourney.

Elsewhere around the league, Averett's Taylor Dix collected Player of the Year accolades, while her teammate, Mary Beth Smith, was named Pitcher of the Year and their coach, Bren Taylor, earned Coach of the Year. Piedmont's Jessica Bagwell was named Rookie of the Year, and Ferrum's Courtney Rudd collected Rookie Pitcher of the Year honors.

Wesleyan opens the USA South Tournament versus Averett at 9:00am Friday morning. All games will be played at the Rocky Mount Sports Complex.
