Cary, N.C. / Rocky Mount, N.C. - N.C. Wesleyan's softball team won a trio of games at this weekend's Grand Slam Triangle Classic. On Saturday in Cary, the Bishops opened up with a 10-7 win over Washington College before dropping a 12-1 contest to Roanoke later in the evening. Sunday's home opener featured 11-10 and 8-0 victories over NYU and Wilson, respectively.

Versus Washington, the Bishops plated five runs in the seventh inning to take a 10-4 lead, then held off a furious WC rally to hold on for the 10-7 victory. Freshman Shelby Godwin tallied a pair of hits with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Logan Lowery (1-1) earned the win and Lindsay Sharpe (1) the save in the circle.

Sunday's opener at Edge Field saw NCWC rebound from Saturday's late-evening loss to Roanoke with an 11-10 win over NYU. Wesleyan saw a 9-4 lead erased in the sixth after the Violets scored six runs to take a 10-9 lead. The Bishops were able to secure the win with single runs in their last two at-bats due, in part, to a pair of costly NYU throwing errors that plated Brittany Manning and Kaitlyn Checkan.

Manning and Godwin each went 3-for-4, with Sharpe (1-1) earning her first win on the mound.

In the tourney's final game, NCWC was able to knock of Wilson 8-0 in five innings. Offensively, Checkan turned in a monster game with a 4-for-4 showing at the plate, three RBIs, and her first homerun of the season. Godwin (1-1) went the distance, allowing just two hits with three strikeouts over five complete.

The Bishops (3-3) open up USA South play next weekend at Mary Baldwin and Ferrum. Saturday's first pitch is slated for a 1:00pm start.
