Wesleyan Softball Sweeps Baldwin, Drops Two at Ferrum

Staunton, Va. / Ferrum, Va. - N.C. Wesleyan's softball team opened up USA South play over the weekend, sweeping a twinbill at Mary Baldwin on Saturday before dropping a pair of games at Ferrum on Sunday. The Bishops are now 5-5 overall, 2-2 in league action.

Saturday's doubleheader at MBC saw Wesleyan post 18-0 and 10-0 victories. The Bishops combined for six homeruns over the two-game set, led by junior Brittany Manning's two bombs and 5-for-8 showing at the plate.

In the circle, Logan Lowery and Lindsey Sharpe each tossed complete-game shutouts and combined to allow just five hits on the day.

At Ferrum on Sunday, sophomore Kaitlyn Checkan went a combined 5-for-6 at the plate over the two-game set, but the Bishops would fall by 4-0 and 11-3 scores. Lowery and Sharpe suffered the losses on the mound and now each stand at 2-2 on the season.

The Bishops continue play on Wednesday with a home doubleheader versus Averett University. Game one is slated for a 2:00pm start at Edge Field.
