Rocky Mount, N.C. - The NCWC softball team recognized 2016 Parent's Day on Saturday prior to earning a two-game split with Maryville College at Edge Field. The Bishops had previously split with Piedmont on Friday.

In the Piedmont series, Brittany Manning's 2-run homer capped a 3-run sixth inning and gave the Bishops an eventual 4-3 victory in the opener. Manning's blast came on the heels of a Peyton Hyler RBI-double that had pulled NCWC to within one. The junior shortstop finished 3-for-4 with a trio of RBIs, while Hyler and sophomore Alicia Burns each went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Sophomore Logan Lowery picked up the win in the circle, going the distance and allowing just one hit with seven strikeouts. All three PC runs were unearned.

Game two saw the league-leading Lions (20-9, 10-2 USA South) bounce back for a 3-2 win.

On Saturday, the Bishops recognized their parents prior to a 3-2 victory over the Scots in game one. Lowery (6-4) turned in another solid performance, tossing another complete game with no earned runs.

Offensively, it was again Manning who delivered the big blow with a two-run triple to centerfield that put the Bishops on top for good in the fourth. Sophomore catcher Saray Bowyer finished 2-for-3 with a run scored.

Maryville (15-15, 11-5 USA South) avoided the sweep with a 10-2 win in the 5-inning nightcap. Freshman Shelby Godwin (2-3) suffered her second loss of the weekend on the mound.

The Bishops are now 10-12 overall, 7-5 in conference play. Wesleyan returns to action on Wednesday versus William Peace University at Edge Field. First pitch is slated for 2:30pm.
