Rocky Mount, N.C. - Freshman Shelby Godwin's walk-off RBI-single gave the N.C. Wesleyan softball team a two-game sweep of William Peace University on Wednesday afternoon at Edge Field. The Bishops, who took the opener by a 4-1 score, overcame a 3-0 deficit in game two to steal the 4-3 win.

Game one saw current USA South pitcher of the Week Logan Lowery turn in another impressive start, allowing just one unearned run on two hits with four strikeouts. Her teammates gave her all the offense she would need with a pair of runs in the both the fourth and sixth innings, highlighted by a Peyton Hyler two-run double.

Senior Jasmine Edgren went 2-for-3 at the plate in game one before getting the start on the mound in the nightcap. WPU jumped out to a 2-0 lead on Edgren thanks to a two-run homer by Lindsey Wiggins in the first. The Pacers added an RBI-single by Katelyn McLamb in the second for a 3-0 advantage. Edgren, however, settled in from there, blanking the Pacers the next three innings.

Wesleyan got on the board in the fifth on a two-run double by sophomore Sarah Bowyer that made the score 3-2 in favor of Peace. WPU threatened by loading the bases in the sixth with no outs, but Lowery proceeded to come on in relief to record a pop-up and a pair of strikeouts to end the threat.

An inning and a half later, the stage was set for Wesleyan's thrilling finish. Junior Lindsey Sharpe led off the inning with a double to left center, followed by sophomore Kaitlyn Checkan getting hit by a pitch. WPU managed a strikeout of the Bishops' next batter, and the ensuing groundout placed runners at second and third with two outs. Bowyer then tied the game with a sharp single up the middle, leaving Godwin to plate Checkan with the winning run on a line-drive to right center.

Lowery (8-4) was credited with her fifth straight win in the circle, while offensively, Bowyer finished 2-for-4 with a trio of RBIs.

For WPU, Morgan Farmer (13-4) and Kesley Durham (4-7) took the losses on the mound. Wiggins led the Pacer offense with a 3-for-4 showing at the plate in game two.

The Bishops (12-12, 9-5 USA South) continue league play on the road this weekend at Huntingdon and LaGrange.
