MARYVILLE, TN - The NC Wesleyan College softball team went on a tough road trip to Tennessee to battle USA South West leader Maryville College on Sunday in a non-conference DH, but unfortunately fell 7-3 and 8-0.

After Maryville got out to an early 2-0 lead on a home run, the Lady Bishops came back with a three-run third inning to take a 3-2 lead. Junior CF Nichole Mooney's two-run double tied the game at 2 before SS Meredith Mize's RBI single drove in Mooney.

Maryville then used a three-run triple in the 4th and a two-run single in the 6th to take the commanding 7-3 lead off Bishop starter Beth Braswell. Braswell ended up throwing 6 innings allowing 7 runs on 8 hits with 5 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Mooney led the way offensively with a double and a triple while junior 2B Meredith Booth also registered a two-hit game. Mize had a stolen base as well.

Maryville pitching then dominated game two holding the Bishops to just one hit over 5 innings in the 8-0 loss. MC jumped on top early with a 5-run first inning before adding three more runs in the 2nd off Bishop starter Grace Preston. Preston allowed 8 runs on 11 hits with a walk and a strikeout over 4 innings.

Mooney again was the offense as she registered the only hit in the game as Wesleyan fell to 5-7 on the season while Maryville improved to 9-1. Mooney is now hitting .382 on the season while Mize is at .472 with 12 runs scored.

The Lady Bishops return to action on Wednesday when they head to Greensboro to battle Guilford College in a 2 PM DH.
