ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College softball team took game one of their doubleheader with non-conference foe Carolina University 7-3 at home from Edge Field on Wednesday.

Unfortunately, Wesleyan could not complete the sweep as CU won game two 7-2 in 6 innings.

Wesleyan got on the board first with an RBI walk in the 3rd inning scoring leadoff hitter Nichole Mooney. CU (6-12) then scored two runs in the 4th on a Bishop error.

However, the Lady Bishops came back with a big 6-run 4th inning led by back-to-back 2-run triples from Mooney and senior SS Meredith Mize giving Wesleyan a 5-3 lead. Senior pitcher Beth Braswell then finished off the inning with a towering two-run home run to left field.

Braswell also pitched another 7-inning complete game allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on 6 hits with 3 walks and 9 strikeouts to pick up her 5th win.

Mize led the way offensively with three hits while Mooney and freshman 1B Abby Todd recorded two hits each. Mooney also stole two bases in the win improving NCWC to 6-5.

GAME 2: CU 7, NCWC 2

The Lady Bruins got off to a fast start in this one scoring 7 runs on 4 hits and an error over the first two innings off Bishop starter Grace Preston. Preston (0-4) ended up throwing all 6 innings allowing 7 runs, but only 2 earned, on 11 hits with 2 walks and a strikeout.

Wesleyan then tried to rally in the third inning as Mize drove in two runs on a double as outfielder Logan Winstead and Preston came around to score. Senior 2B Meredith Booth also registered a double in game two. Mize and Braswell also turned a double play defensively.

Wesleyan falls to 6-6 on the season and will next be in action on Saturday to host Averett University in a 1 PM doubleheader.
