ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College softball team rolled to two wins over Div. II Elizabeth City St. on Monday afternoon from Edge Field.

The Bishops first shut out the Vikings 3-0 in game one behind 7 shutout innings from freshman starter Emily Humphrey. Wesleyan then won 7-2 in game two to improve to 8-4 on the season. Wesleyan has now won 7 of their past 8 games.

In game one, Humphrey threw 7 shutout innings allowing just 3 hits and one walk while striking out three while improving to 4-1 on the year.

With sophomore catcher MK Raynor on first after a single, senior center fielder Logan Winstead then reached base via a missed catch error by the ECSU 1B. Freshman 2B Alexis Whitfield then came up and also reached via error as Raynor came around to score on the errant throw. Winstead then also scored on the play on another throw as Whitfield was advancing to second.

The Bishops then added an insurance run as freshman 3B Molly Alejandrino doubled and came around to score on another ECSU error, this time on a ball hit by freshman RF Juliette Desmarais. Winstead led the offense with two hits in game one.

In Game two, freshman starter Sofia Salcido led in the circle throwing all 7 innings allowing two runs on 10 hits with no walks to improve to 2-0 on the season. ECSU fell to 0-8 with the losses.

With the Bishops trailing 1-0 in the 4th, they finally got on the board sending 10 batters to the plate in the inning while scoring five runs on 7 hits. The inning began with a double from Alejandrino followed by a single from sophomore 1B Abby Todd. Senior 3B Brianna Myers then drove in those two with her laser rope up the middle while singles from outfielders Deonna Adams and Whitfield then loaded the bases forcing an ECSU pitching change. Winstead and senior SS Meredith Mize then knocked in runs with RBI singles while freshman 2B Skyler Walker hit a sacrifice fly for the 5th run of the inning.

Wesleyan then made it 7-1 in the 5th scoring on an RBI walk and a fielder's choice. Todd and Winstead led the team with multi-hit games while Winstead and Walker also stole bases.
