RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC Wesleyan College softball team rallied for a 4-2 win over Meredith College in game one of their conference doubleheader from Raleigh on Tuesday. The Bishops then hung on for a 3-2 win in game two to sweep the conference series.

Meredith grabbed a 1-0 lead in the third inning on the Bishops before freshman 2B Alexis Whitfield came in to score on Winstead's batted ball that led to a MC error in the 5th to tie the game at one.

The sixth inning then saw singles from 1B Abby Todd, RF Juliette Desmarais and catcher MK Raynor to load the bases with one out. After a Whitfield popup, senior CF Logan Winstead then stepped to the plate and crushed a three-run triple driving in 3 runs and giving Wesleyan a 4-1 edge.

An RBI groundout by the Angels in the bottom of the 6th made it 4-2, but freshman pitcher Emily Humphrey finished off Meredith in the 7th for the win. Humphrey threw a complete game allowing just 2 runs on 7 hits with a walk and two strikeouts to improve to 7-3 on the year.

Todd and Winstead led the team with multi-hit games while freshman 3B Molly Alejandrino also roped a double.

The Bishops (12-9) and Angels (13-4) squared off at 4 PM in game two of their series.

In the second game, Wesleyan used a three-run third inning to jump in front 3-1 while two pitchers combined to hold down the Angels over the final few frames for the win.

After MC got to freshman starter Laila Holloway in the first inning for one run, Whitfield got the big third inning started for the Bishops with a leadoff single before a fielder's choice put Winstead on base. Winstead then stole second prior to freshman LF Skyler Walker coming up to drive in Winstead with her RBI double.

Then, after back-to-back hit by pitches to Mize and Alejandrino, Abby Todd stepped up and roped a two-run double to give the Bishops a 3-1 lead.

After five innings of two-run ball from Holloway, Humphrey came on in the 6th to close the game out scoreless allowing just one hit to pick up her first save. Holloway allowed just two runs on 4 hits and no walks over 5 innings to improve to 3-2.

Todd led the Bishops with a two-hit game while Winstead stole two more bases. The Bishops improve to 3-1 in the USA South and 13-9 overall while Meredith fell to 2-2 and 13-5.

Wesleyan returns to action on Saturday when they come back home to Edge Field to host Pfeiffer University in a 1:00 PM doubleheader.
