Rocky Mount, N.C. - For the first time in program history, the North Carolina Wesleyan women's tennis team has captured a share of the USA South Regular Season Title! The Bishops did so by tallying a thrilling 6-3 victory over Methodist University on Monday afternoon at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Complex.

The two teams had begun play last Wednesday, but storms forced the match to be suspended until Monday afternoon with the Bishops holding slim leads at #2 and #3 doubles. When play resumed, Yvonne Kamegne and Michelle Hart finished off an 8-2 win at the 2nd seed, while Tori Jones and Bristy Parker completed an 8-5 victory at the 3rd seed to give NCWC a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.

Kamegne, Samia Kacher, Hart and Parker went on to tally wins at #1, #2, #4 and #6 singles, respectively, to secure the win. With Wesleyan up 4-3, Hart's straight-set victory was the clincher.

Earlier in the day, the freshman from Rosebud, Australia earned her second straight USA South Rookie of the Week award. Hart posted a 4-0 record last week with two singles wins and two doubles victories versus opponents from Mt. Olive and Mary Baldwin.

Monday's win over the Monarchs forced a three-way tie for the regular season title between Wesleyan, Methodist and Meredith, who all finished 8-1 in league play. A blind draw for this weekend's conference tournament seedings placed the Angels #1, the Bishops #2 and the Monarchs #3.

Wesleyan will take on the winner of #7 Mary Baldwin and #10 Averett on Friday at 9:00am in Burlington.
