NCWC Women's Tennis Drops Pair of Home Matches

Rocky Mount, N.C. - The women's tennis team of North Carolina Wesleyan dropped a pair of home matches over the weekend, suffering sweeps at the hands of nationally-ranked Mary Washington and USA South foe Christopher Newport.

The Bishops began play on Saturday versus the 6th-ranked Eagles of UMW, who are currently undefeated on the season. UMW forged a 3-0 lead in doubles play, with NCWC's senior tandem of Bristy Parker and Tori Jones turning in a solid effort at the #2 seed in an 8-4 defeat.

In singles play, senior Samia Kacher turned in Wesleyan's best performance, battling top-seeded Cassie Bowman through three sets before eventually dropping a 10-4 decision in the third (6-2, 2-6, 10-4). The Eagles surrendered just four games in slots two through six en route to the shutout.

Wesleyan then opened up conference play on Sunday against CNU in cold, windy conditions. The Captains led 3-0 after doubles play as Parker/Jones again battled hard before falling 8-5 at the #2 flight. CNU proceeded to breeze to straight-set wins in singles play, although Parker and Jones combined to win 11 games at the #3 and #4 seeds.

NCWC (0-4, 0-1 USA South) returns to action after Spring Break, traveling to Guilford College on March 13th for a 3:00pm tilt with the Quakers.
