Kacher, Jones Highlight Women's Tennis Awards

Fayetteville, N.C. - The USA South Athletic Conference has released its 2013 postseason awards for women's tennis, with total of 35 student-athletes being named to the All-Conference teams. A trio of N.C. Wesleyan players garnered recognition, led by senior Samia Kacher as a First Team honoree.

Kacher anchored the #1 singles position for the Bishops this season, posting an 8-3 record in USA South play. The Igny, France native also managed seven league wins at the top two doubles positions, which included a 4-0 mark with teammate Bristy Parker.

"Samia played some great tennis the last half of the season," said NCWC head coach Worth Richardson. "She certainly proved that she is among the conference's elite players."

Joining Kacher on the All-Conference team was senior Tori Jones as an Honorable Mention. Jones posted five USA South wins on the season, primarily playing at the #3 seed. She added six conference victories in doubles action, three of which came at the top seed.

Added Richardson, "Tori had a great season, especially considering that she had to balance the responsibilities of being a senior and a member of ROTC."

Elsewhere around the league, Meredith College's Puja Patel collected Player of the Year honors, Averett University's Suvi Salminen earned Rookie of the Year accolades and Methodist University's Francie Barragan was named Coach of the Year.

The USA South also recognized an All-Sportsmanship Team, consisting of one member from each competing school. North Carolina Wesleyan was represented by freshman Katie Beeman.
