Bishop Women Notch First USA South Victory at Meredith, 6-3

Raleigh, N.C. - The women's tennis team of N.C. Wesleyan picked up its first victory of the season on Monday, downing Meredith College by a 6-3 score in Raleigh. Down 2-1 after doubles, the Battling Bishops won five of six singles matches to secure the win.

Sophomores Florencia Sorrentino and Ana Diaz teamed for an 8-4 win at #2 doubles to avoid a Meredith sweep. Both players later posted straight-set wins at #3 and #4 singles, which knotted the match at 3-3 at the time.

At #1 singles, senior Valeria Berber gave NCWC a 4-3 advantage with a 6-3, 6-4 win over the Angels' Catherine Bryant, while Andrea Tobar's 6-4, 6-1 win at the 5th seed clinched the victory for Wesleyan.

Senior Katie Beeman provided the Bishops' final point with a three-set victory over MC's Kate DeSilva at #6 (6-4, 2-6, 7-5).

Wesleyan is now 1-1 in USA South play this season. The Bishops continue league play this weekend at Mary Baldwin and Ferrum on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
